Enterprise document management goes mobile in ColumbiaSoft’s third major update of the year.

Businesses can now offer access to files in the office from virtually anywhere on mobile smartphones and tablets thanks to new technology in ColumbiaSoft’s Document Locator version 6.3.

Portland, Ore. – November 15, 2012 - With a growing number of people turning to their smartphones and tablets to get work done, ColumbiaSoft has released new technology that makes it possible for companies to host a mobile-ready interface for their document management system so people can easily access files while on the go. The new technology, included in ColumbiaSoft’s Document Locator (DL) version 6.3, extends several key components of document management already available through desktop integration and in Web browsers to a new method of access designed for mobile.

“Smart phones and tablets are more than just a convenience for employees who work on the road; for clients who want self-service access to files; even for people in the office who are away from their computer,” said ColumbiaSoft engineering manager, Tim Emerson. “In our third major release of the year, companies now have a secure way to allow whomever they choose to use their mobile devices to retrieve files, participate in workflows, and more.”

Engineered in the new HTML5 markup language, DL Mobile has the broadest compatibility across different mobile operating systems, including IOS on iPhones and iPads, Android, Windows Phone, Microsoft Surface, and even the latest generations of BlackBerry. A simple and straightforward touch-optimized design allows users to search content, open and view files, send and receive notifications, and participate in workflows.

The new mobile technology is distinctive in that it allows businesses to host their own mobile interface. Unlike outside-hosted services, companies maintain possession of information in secure, on-site repositories.

As the third major release of the year, Document Locator version 6.3 follows closely after the introduction of document preview and profiling technology released in version 6.2 in July, and a host of technology improvements included in version 6.1 in January.
