With Microsoft just days away from the expected announcement of the new SQL Server 2012,  it’s timely to note for users of Document Locator that the latest version of the document management system is already compatible. Having pre-release, developer editions of the new SQL database technology, ColumbiaSoft engineers designed compatibility into version 6.1. No worries about backwards compatibility either,  the latest versions also do work with prior versions of Microsoft SQL Server, including SQL Server 2005 and 2008, in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions.

Among some of the new things expected with the latest SQL database technology are an integrated high availability and disaster recovery solution called SQL Server AlwaysOn. This is designed to reduce planned and unplanned downtime, enhance database mirroring, and improve SQL Server failover clustering, among other things. Performance improvements are also a plus, benefiting from a new column store technology and an overhaul of full-text search.
