ColumbiaSoft engineered compatibility into its document management system for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 prior to the release of the new database platform.

Portland, Ore. – February 28, 2012 - Document Locator version 6.1, ColumbiaSoft’s latest version of the leading Microsoft Windows-based document management software system, is fully compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 which is expected to be released in March.

“ColumbiaSoft’s focus on providing our customers with every advantage to leverage new technology without delay is fundamental,” said ColumbiaSoft executive vice president, David Pogue. “Drawing on our connections as a partner and being among the first to develop on Microsoft’s latest technologies, helps secure our position as a leader in electronic document management.”

While engineers worked on the current version of Document Locator, version 6.1 released on January 31, 2012, they took into consideration the yet-to-be-released Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (then code named Denali). Having pre-release, developer editions of the new SQL database technology, ColumbiaSoft engineers were able to design compatibility into the latest version of document management software.

Document Locator remains compatible with prior versions of Microsoft SQL Server, including SQL Server 2005 and 2008, in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions.

Among the many advantages expected with the latest SQL database technology are a new integrated high availability and disaster recovery solution called SQL Server AlwaysOn. The new component is designed to reduce planned and unplanned downtime, enhance database mirroring, and improve SQL Server failover clustering, among other things. Performance improvements are also a plus, benefitting from a new column store technology and an overhaul of full-text search.

Document Locator is a Microsoft Windows document management system that embeds document control and automation within familiar business applications on the desktop. The system utilizes Microsoft SQL Server as its underlying database.
