Document Locator System Requirements
For successful installation and use of Document Locator, your technology should meet the minimum recommended system requirements below. Additional RAM and faster processor speed will provide greater performance. Contact ColumbiaSoft technical support directly to help ensure that your configuration will meet your performance requirements. Because many variables influence system performance, ColumbiaSoft will make best efforts to advise customers, but is not responsible for insuring adequate system hardware and software configurations.
Document Locator client
- Administrator rights to install software
- Windows XP with SP3; Vista or Windows 7 required
- The server version of PDF FactoryPro is required under Citrix/Terminal Server if Document Locator PDF capability is required
- 32-bit or 64-bit OS environment supported with Document Locator 5.3 or higher
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or newer required
- Pentium 4 or higher processor required
- 1024 Megabyte of RAM or greater recommended (2048 Megabytes for Vista)
- Network Speed: 100/1000 base-T
- Super VGA monitor (screen resolution set at least 800 x 600, small fonts)
- 128 Megabyte video RAM or higher
Client Disk Space requirements:
- CD installation: 100 MB before installation and 140 MB after the install is complete
- Web Download: 100 MB before installation and 140 MB after the install is complete
Document Locator Database Server
- Administrator rights to install software
- Operating System: Dedicated Windows 2003 or 2008 R2 server required (64-bit Windows Server OS is supported)
- Database Engine: Dedicated Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 is required. 32-bit SQL Server running in 64-bit Windows 2008 R2 Server OS environment is supported and may be advised for large installations; 64-bit SQL Server is supported but may lack 3rd party iFilter support
- Dedicated multiple-core CPU required (multiple processor and multiple-core CPU hardware server recommended for larger installations)
- 4 Gigabytes or greater of RAM dedicated to SQL Server recommended (see Server Configuration tool for more details)
- For very large repositories, Windows 2003 or 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition Server is recommended
- Network speed: Gigabit or 1000 base-T is strongly recommended
- Super VGA monitor (screen resolution set to at least 800 x 600, small fonts)
- Microsoft Small Business Server and other non-dedicated application servers or multiple virtualized servers and non-standard configurations are not supported without ColumbiaSoft Engineering's review & approval. Virtual server environments must dedicate sufficient memory and CPU resources to SQL Server as noted above. Installation may require re-boot of server.
Server Disk Space required:
- SCSI or SAS technology
- The initial Document Locator database requires 40 MB. Overall disk space requirement will be based on the number of documents scanned or imported and versions to retain. We recommend discussion disk space requirement with one of our sale engineers.
- Default file growth is set for 10% incremental increases as required
- For very large repositories, SQL Server should be optimized for performance
Scanning Station Requirements
- Administrator rights to install software
- Windows XP with SP3; Vista or Windows 7 required
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or newer
- Pentium Xeon or higher (2GHz or higher recommended)
- 4 Gigabyte of RAM or greater recommended
- 128 Megabyte Video RAM for Vista
- Network speed: 100/1000 base-T
Client Disk Space requirements:
- CD installation: 100 MB before installation and 140 MB after the install is complete
- Web Download: 100 MB before installation and 140 MB after the install is complete
- Overall disk space requirements will depend on the number of pages being scanned/imported. Ideally, we recommend more than 100 GB of free space for large scanning operations.

- Administrator rights to install software
- Requires Windows 2003 Server or Windows 2008 Server (64-bit Windows 2008 Server is supported)
- Internet Information Server 6.0 or higher with ASP and ASP.NET support.
- Dedicated multiple-core CPU required (multiple processor and multiple-core CPU hardware server recommended for larger installations)
